By day, she’s a mild-mannered ophthalmic assistant; by night she’s a creator of superheroes. Emily (Watts) Drouin ’04, a graphic design major at Keene State, is all about promoting art education and literacy through comics. A resident of Raymond, New Hampshire, she attended her first comic con (short for “convention”) in 2010, and since then has been creating comic books, including EPLIS, a sci-fi series on which she collaborates with her husband, Jeremy Drouin ’03, and Hyperdork, a romantic superhero series, plus coloring and activity books.

Tips to get started in the art of comic book writing and illustration

The annual ICON Comics and Games Convention is set to take place at the Emperors Palace in Johannesburg this weekend.

The conference will host a series of tabletop and board gaming warfare, national tournaments, competitions as well as 40 panel and workshop presentations focusing on various topics such as the state of esports in South Africa, how to design monsters and aliens for games and how to get started on your own YouTube channel.

Looking at the topic of comic book writing and illustration, Azania Mosaka sat down with illustrator Sean Izaakse who is currently the artist on the ‘Avengers’ and ‘Champions’ comic books, as well as Jim Zub – a Marvel Comics author and currently the lead writer on the ‘Avengers’ and ‘Champions’ series of comic books.

How Good Charlotte’s Guitarist Became One Of Marvel’s Most Prolific Artists

If you grew up in the ‘90s, chances are you know the band Good Charlotte. Bursting onto the scene with their anthem “Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous,” the pop-punk quintet have spent almost two decades churning out enough hits to worry even bald assassin Agent 47.

What you might not know about Good Charlotte, however, is that their guitarist Billy Martin spends his spare time illustrating some of the world’s biggest comics.

On a quest to reimagine comics, Andrews McMeel launches animation contest

 

As Andrews McMeel Universal looks to the future of comic strips, it’s working to attract a new generation of talent and reimagine what comics could be. Part of the Kansas City-based company’s vision involves tapping into short-form animated videos, and it’s kicking off that initiative with a GoComics Short Shorts Animation Contest open to the U.S. and Canada.

Digital animation isn’t reserved for the big studios anymore, thanks to today’s affordable animation tools.

CFx Comics: Animating for a cause one issue at a time

Marvel’s new television series ‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ will premiere Friday, Sept. 29, on ABC

Well, this should be fun!!!

The legendary comic book series will be brought to life in a way that has never been done before, as a version of the first two episodes will be shown globally in IMAX theaters for a two-week period, beginning Sept. 1. ABC will then air the entirety of the series throughout this fall on the network, with additional exclusive content that can only been seen on ABC.

4 ways comic books shaped Elon Musk’s bold vision of the future

When he wasn’t reading a slew of science fiction books, classics like “Lord of the Flies” or the encyclopedia, Musk says his favorites were Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Doctor Strange and Iron Man. His love for comics came full circle when Musk was tapped for a cameo in “Iron Man 2.” He was so excited about the opportunity he let Marvel Studios film scenes for the movie at SpaceX’s headquarters for free.

Hey Parents, you might want to think twice about discouraging your kids from reading comics all the time 🙂
